Mission & Vision

What We Stand For

Vision

"A world in which digital transformations of economies, societies, and politics are governed by legitimate, inclusive frameworks shaped by rigorous, independent knowledge."

Embedded within the Global Governance Centre at the Geneva Graduate Institute, the Global Digital Governance Lab is uniquely positioned to bridge scholarship and international policymaking, and to serve as a platform for global conversations on digital governance.

The Lab produces independent, social science-based rigorous research on the digital economies, infrastructures, rights, and technologies reshaping political and social life. Drawing on Geneva's singular position as a hub of multilateral diplomacy and international organisation, it convenes researchers, policymakers, industry actors, and civil society to connect knowledge and practice.

The Lab brings these key actors together to help understand what current digital governance processes include, what they exclude, and how they can be improved. We bring the analytical tools of the social sciences to bear on what those processes make possible, what they foreclose, and how they can be made to work better for the benefit of all.

"Few institutions approach digital governance debates from the perspective of global governance — the institutions, norms, and processes through which the international community negotiates collective rules."
